Citrus Jr. was formed on August 20, 2022, with the goal of playing at "MVHS Rock The Hill," a battle of the bands style concert. They performed 2 songs that night, starting with "High And Dry" by Radiohead and ending with their first original, "I DON'T SAY I LOVE YOU ANYMORE," recorded and uploaded days before their first performance. They continued to play open mics and local events until one day in November when a performance went horribly wrong, causing bassist Levi Taylor to quit and the band to "break up." Throughout December, guitarist and vocalist Kaden Adams and Barak Brown began writing what is now known as "Not All Dogs Go To Heaven." They had already written half of the album by the end of the month and begged Levi to give the band one last try. Barak and Kaden showed them the new songs ("Harvey Pt 1-2," "Postal Service," "500 Days of Bummer," and "Not All Dogs Go To Heaven"), and the band was back together. After their rebirth, they continued to play and write, finishing their album by spring. They started recording in Escondido with Nick Maybury, finishing the process at the start of June and the end of the school year. On August 18th. Citrus Jr. continued to play shows locally and attempt to build an audience until January when guitarist Kaden Adams left the band. Now a 3 piece they carried on playing a Vans shoe release party and their first of many shows at the Che Cafe with a new sound. With the loss of an instrument Barak and Levi had to step up to fill the space. Barak began to learn how to play rhythm and lead lines akin to a mix of Algernon Cadwallader midwest emo and Hum style noise rock, Levi started to play a very rhythm heavy bass style inspired by bands like Title Fight to fill the gaps, and Dylan pushed them into a much nosier directionpulling inspiration from the no wave scene of the 1970s. Now running a DIY warehouse venue and an entirely new catalog they began shows in a whole new scene connecting with new bands and joining SDS Records as they tweaked and expiremented with their new style and sound. With enough songs to record they attempted to track everything DIY in their warehouse space before being asked by Dylan Todd (Veto, Boy Idealist) and Brady Walz (Kid Judo, formerly Echinecea) to record for free with other students attending Studio West. With a fully recorded EP they took it to Mike Moschetto to mix and master it before it's release on May 9th and hit the road for a tour 10 day tour up and down the coasts of California and Oregon with a detour in reno in support Chudson who would become some of their closest friends on the road.
Citrus Jr. is a melting pot of genres and bands, ranging from Shoegaze to experimental folk, with each member having their own unique background. At the beginning of the band, Kaden was into hip-hop, Levi listened to punk, Dylan played Nu Metal, and Barak had just started exploring alternative and indie music. They began to share ideas and albums, quickly delving deeper into the rabbit hole of Topster lists and The Needle Drop reviews. Jeff Rosenstock, Andrew Jackson Jihad, My Bloody Valentine, and Weezer were just a fraction of the artists from whom they drew influence and inspiration for the writing of Not All Dogs Go To Heaven. As time went on and lineup changed so did the influences. Algernon Cadwallader, Hum, Origami Angel, Title Fight, Cap'n Jazz, and Sonic Youth shaped the sound of ...Athens Georgia which attempted to blend 90s and modern Midwest Emo with Noise rock.
They're currently writing the next batch of songs, running a warehouse venue in Oceanside, and performing at shows all San Diego with plans on more tours more releases and many many more shows
